Integrating Hansel and Gretel Across the Curriculum

Found in: arts; reading; math; science

After I read Hansel and Gretel to my class, we graph colors and shapes. The students' objective is to make a pattern of shapes and colors showing how they would get from their house to the witch's house. We address geography and social studies by discussing addresses. In art, we make gingerbread houses. As glue we use a mixture of three egg whites, half a teaspoon of cream of tarter and one pound of confectioner's sugar. We glue graham crackers together for the house and use upside down sugar cones topped with green frosting and candies for trees. In science, we discuss trees, plants and living matter. Finally, we write about our experience.
