Learning Centers

Found in: routines & procedures

When students finish work before the rest of the class, I have them work at instructional centers. My centers focus more on enrichment than remediation or practice. The centers differentiate concepts and provide opportunities to make cross-curricular connections.

My students love to solve logic problems, which motivate them to finish their work quickly. Solving problems helps them exercise inductive and deductive reasoning and sharpen reading skills. Games of strategy like Mancala, Battleship and Guess Who? are favorites. Magazines like National Geographic or World (Jr. Nat'l Geo.) are effective as well.
