Monitoring Hall Passes

Found in: hall passes

To address the problem of students using passes too frequently or to monitor the use of passes, our school uses a student 'pass book' that provides duplicates of the passes to be kept in the office should a problem arise (ie. stolen items, vandalism). However, my response is directed more toward limiting the number of students leaving my room.

I require students who ask to leave for any reason (other than an emergency) to make up the time during their recess or after school. I keep track by having students return their passes to me and when they come in to make up their time, I throw the pass away. The result has been that I have very few students who ask to leave during lesson time and those students who do leave really need to go. I also allow students to use the restroom during our passing time, which helps to reduce the number of emergencies.
