Mix It Up (Or Not) To Stop Cheating

Sometimes I print a test on different colored paper and tell students to write W for white, Y for yellow, P for pink in the spot on the answer sheet where it says "form." It was the same test, but the kids didn't know.

Other times, I would start with the same two or three questions, then scramble the rest of the questions. One row got one test, the next row got the other. It took a little extra work to do that, but I sure found out who had wandering eyes! And this was for the objective part of my tests.

The essay section didn't change since kids were smart enough not to try to copy those! These suggestions worked quite well with my seventh and eighth graders. You have to keep moving around the room as they take tests, too. That helps keep eyes from wandering.
